Windows Server Standard 2019 on Azure

Hello,

I would like to take advantage of my Windows Server Standard 2019 licences when migrating on Azure however it looks like the only image available are for the Datacenter edition.

What's the recommendation to make the best use of our licences on Azure ?

Hi @SIMONEwen-5360,

Azure Hybrid Benefit is a cost-savings benefit that lets you bring your existing on-premises Windows Server and SQL Server licenses with active Software Assurance or subscriptions to Azure.

SQL Server and Windows Server licenses with active Software Assurance or qualifying subscription licenses. These include:

  • Windows Server Datacenter edition with Software Assurance.

  • Windows Server Standard edition with Software Assurance.

If you don't have Software Assurance, it's available for purchase with new licenses at list prices or with qualifying subscription licenses, for more information see:

Thanks you for you answer.

My main issue is the lack of Standard edition images on Azure.
How shall I process to be able to use Standard edition licences ?

Standard edition customers can convert the license to a Datacenter license; once you assign the Azure Hybrid Use Benefit to Azure.

Since these are technical forums, and not legal ones, licensing questions would be best to ask from a trained Microsoft licensing specialist.
You can contact Microsoft directly and discuss your licensing needs - www.microsoft.com/licensing
