things weird about SharePiont site "Access Denied"

Hello ,

We created a SharePoint site names "admin department", we setup user as "read only" (custom permission levels) group, but when the user get inviting and check the link, they get "Access Denied" ,
issue Type: "User does not have permissions".

But the things weird: I give him a link of document (a pdf) belong the "admin site", he/she click it and open the document. after that, he /she can access the whole "admin site" right away with "read only" permission .

I think this is a very typical question, and I would really appreciate your help

Rob

Whether all users occur this issue? Are they internal users or external users?

Please provide detailed information of custom "read only" permission level, such as screenshot.

You could go to Site settings -> Site Collection Features -> Deactivate Limited-access user permission lockdown mode feature, then have a test, compare the result.

I'm experiencing the same type of issue. And this is new behavior for users who's permissions have not changed. All of the sudden, they just can't access their content. Contribute, edit, or Read permissions. And this problem is effecting random users throughout the organization.

Hello Emily,
Thanks for you reply, only new create internal user has that issue.
II found the pdf file was uploaded before the "read only" group.
If create a user as "read only" group, they don't have access for that pdf file.
And there are some files in the site has info "This document has unique permissions."
the files permissions are set incorrectly. maybe it's the one of the reason for that issue
I'll update about that issue

Please provide detailed information of custom "read only" permission level, such as screenshot. Then I can test in my SharePoint.

Go to site permissions -> Check permissions -> Check whether the user has permission for the site.

Go to Pages library -> Select home page -> Manage access -> Check whether the user has permission for the page.

Go to library -> Select the PDF file -> Manage access -> Check whether the user has permission for the file.
