best practise windows server

Hi
a general question.
I have one server and two windows 10 PRO computers.
I want to install windows server 2019 standard on my server; which has enough resources and two network adapters.

What is de best way af working, knowing that I need to have
- running a website (php/mysql on linux) in a VM
- domain controller / active directory

My idea is to run the website on a VM (hyper-V).
I am not sure, how to go with the domain controller / active directory. Everything on bare metal or partial in a VM (which parts?).

Thanks for suggestions, that can help me in a direction.

Kind regards
Wannes

Hello @WannesWannes-4628,

Thank you for posting here.

The information provided by Evgenij-Smirnov and DSPatrick is helpful. I hope the information is also helpful to you.

It's recommended to run Hyper-V role and AD DS on different system.

We suggest there should be a minimum of two DCs in a domain.

And here is a similar case for your reference.
server 2016 active directory and hyper-v same server

Hi,

if you do not install any roles or third party apps on the bare metal, your standard license is good for 2 VMs. I strongly suggest you install the DC + DNS on another VM and leave Hyper-V alone.

Simplest solution is to add the hyper-v role (as only role) on host. Then stand up two virtual machines, one for active directory domain services and other one for the web service.
