Azure backup server BMR backup of workgroup server

I know that DPM does not support doing a BMR backup of a workgroup server and that is stated here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/system-center/dpm/back-up-machines-in-workgroups-and-untrusted-domains?view=sc-dpm-2019.

I cannot find this information for Azure Backup Server. The documentation says that it supports BMR but does not specify if it works for workgroup servers. Is there any place that has this documented? I have looked here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-mabs-protection-matrix and several other places.

I know MABS is based on DPM so it may not and I do not want to go thru the building of a server just to find out it does not.

Thank You.

Hello @HaroldHarris-7303 - Thank you for your post!

The support statement for workgroup and untrusted domain is same for both DPM and MABS. For MABS also we point to DPM documentation.

It is documented in the same article here - MABS (Azure Backup Server) V3 UR1 protection matrix - Azure Backup | Microsoft Docs. For some reason the link is redirecting to incorrect document. Will get that fixed.

Thank you for the response. I was afraid it would not be any different.

Though I do not think this document states it clearly. The screenshot you have doesn't list System State and I know it does that for workgroup servers.

It would be clearer if this link https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/system-center/dpm/back-up-machines-in-workgroups-and-untrusted-domains?view=sc-dpm-2019 stated it applied to DPM as well as MABS.

Thank you.
