HDD failure

Windows 10, Samsung laptop.
I am getting the SMART error on boot up with the Press F! to continue option.
I press F1 and Windows starts up but slowly. Everything seems to work ok and the Windows Disk Checker returns no errors, and the HDD has been defragmented.
I have tried several times to migrate the HDD contents to a new Samsung SSD using the Samsung migration tool. However when I put the SSD into the laptop I get the Windows 4 squares logo for about 20 secs, then the circling dots then blank screen then nothing. Have left laptop on for 45 minutes to see if Windows would start up.
The SSD works ok as I tried it on my other laptop (migrated from that laptop) and no problems.
Hope someone much more experienced than me can help.

Hi,

If the hard drive is still working and you can boot, if you have the technical ability, it might be worth using a free utility like Clonezilla to capture an image of the hard drive to an external USB drive. You can then restore your captured image to the new drive you say you have.

It's not the most easiest system to use but does work well.

https://clonezilla.org/

You will need to create a bootable Clonezilla Live USB thumb stick and boot from it then follow a process to capture an image of your internal hard drive to an additional USB drive (presuming you have a spare USB thumb stick and external drive)

Hope this helps.

Files may be able to be copied and pasted from the problematic drive to another drive by:

a) using an alternative operating system (Ubuntu / Linux)
b) moving the disk drive to a hardware enclosure
c) moving the disk drive to an empty bay of another computer

Find a flash drive that you can format.

Create a bootable Ubuntu flash drive:

Insert the flash drive into the applicable USB port.
Power on the computer and boot to the flash drive:

Use the Ubuntu Graphical User Interface (GUI) to copy and paste files from the problematic drive to the new drive.

Hi,
Based on your description, this issue seems more like a hardware issue. Have you contacted Samsung for their support?
Also for deeper investigation and better sulotion,I would suggest that you try a Microsoft support ticket. If the issue has been proved as system flaw, the consulting fee would be refund. You may find phone number for your region accordingly from the link below.
Global Customer Service phone numbers:

Thanks for your understanding.
Best regards,
Danny
