o365 imap migration not picking up new email on re-sync

Started an imap migration from gmail to exchange online. All the mail is synced but new mail after the syncing changed to "synced" is not migrated. I have clicked the arrow down and forced a sync for the batch but this isnt bringing over new mail . Any ideas?

Also why on the O365 are duplicate emails from the folders put inside the Archive folder?

Hi @geezbill-9157

According to the document below, "When the status is Synced the IMAP migration will continue to synchronize with the source email periodically until you choose Stop Migration.":

Also as mentioned in this article, even after the DNS records are updated to route to Office 365, it's recommended to wait at least 72 hours before you proceed to stopping synchronization with Gmail.

So I'd recommend keeping the migration batch running and see if the new arrived messages can be syned to Exchange online.

Based on my test and research, this behavior is by design and is related to the "All Mail" folder in Gmail:

For the mailboxes which have already been migrated, you can educate the users to just permanently delete all items in the Archive folder. For those who haven't been migrated, "you can probably hide the ALL MAIL from IMAP protocol on Gmail settings or you can exclude the folder when you create the Migration Batch in O365 EAC". See discussion in the comment section of the official blog Troubleshooting IMAP Migrations to Office 365:

  • "If you have migrated from Gmail, you might have duplicate data in the Archive folder (which would be equivalent of All Mail in Gmail)."

  • "For the email duplication, yes, is probably because of the ALL MAIL folder in GMAIL (that it is like a copy of your all Gmail mails) which is being copied to O365 Mailbox in the Archive Folder. You can probably hide the ALL MAIL from IMAP protocol on Gmail settings or you can exclude the folder when you create the Migration Batch in O365 EAC." -Mirela_Buru Microsoft

  • "In regards to the doubled size, this is expected since the All Mail folder will be synced into the Archive folder from Cloud.
If you do not want to export that folder, you can exclude it from the IMAP sync from the migration or from GMail by hiding it from Settings->Labels tab-> Uncheck the box "Show in Imap""

Hope the above information could be helpful.
