SCCM Admin Console not upgrading to version Version 5.2103.1059.3100

Dear Experts and regular SCCM Users!

I have an issue with our SCCM. This is what occurred:

I created a snapshot of the Virtual Machine, where SCCM is installed before installing Hotfix KB10036164. After installing this hotfix, I noticed that WSUS was having issues communicating with SCCM. The Admin Console updated to the latest version (Version 5.2103.1059.3100) from version (5.2103.1059.1800) on the primary server. However, I was also having an issue upgrading the Admin Console on IT Users PC's and Updates stopped syncing from WSUS. What I did, was reverted back to the VMware Snapshot I took before running the hotfix.

This is what is happening now:

The WSUS issue has been fixed, but the Hotfix KB10036164, seems to have been installed. Every time I open the Console, it says "A new version of the console is available (5.2103.1059.3100). Working in the old console (5.2103.1059.1800) might corrupt data.

If I try to install the new console, I get a message "Update complete for extension 0 of 1. One or more errors have occurred while installing new console. Click the "Report" button to review installation log file.

Please help if you can or send me where I can request help. I don’t know how to get the console to get to work properly again. I have found threads about the “AdminUI.ExtensionInstaller.exe Error: 0 : Microsoft.ConfigurationManagement.ManagementProvider.SmsException\r\nDownloaded file does NOT pass Hash validation.” Error, but they all deal with earlier versions of SCCM. Thank you so much.

Hi, @SashaIoffe-1453
Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.
Have you checked below article, it describes the similar issue, you may try to find the path that the consolesetup initiated from the log, and manually executed the consolesetup.exe to see if it helps.

I have found the location in the log. Went there and it was empty. Even though the log says that it successfully downloaded the files, they are not in the folder.

Hi, @SashaIoffe-1453
It's really strange that the folder is empty if we do not delete it manually, maybe it's better now to open a support case like Jason mentioned.

Here is the link of CSS support:

I just solved this in my environment.

I have had this problem a few times in the past, always on Admin machines, never on the Site Server. Usually an uninstall/reinstall of the console via control Panel works.
Yesterday i upgraded to 2111 and the Console on the Site Server got stuck in the endless upgrade loop.

Here's how you do it:
Find another machine that has the correct version of the Console running.
Browse to the folder location (the one that is empty on the problem machine) - C:\Program Files (x86)\ConfigMgr10\AdminconsoleSetup\<random obfuscated string>
Copy the files from the good machine to the same directory on the broken one.
Run ConsoleSetup.exe as administrator.
Wait a few minutes, Extension Updater window should pop up.
When that finishes, reboot & launch the console.

Now, I cant speak to the snapshot rollback, I've never done that. I heard of it happening to a colleague and the fix was not pretty.
So, this may not help you and you will probably end up dealing with Microsoft if it doesn't.

What I did, was reverted back to the VMware Snapshot I took before running the hotfix.

This is rarely a good course of action in the context of ConfigMgr and is unsupported.

What does this mean?
The only problem with our SCCM is that the console is not installing. Everything else is working. So are you telling me, that tough luck? I can't get any help on this now?

I can't believe that you would even write this. Instead of directing me to somewhere, where I can find help, you decide to just give me a quick brush off? This is a joke.

Not a brush off at all. It means you have probably done something bad to your instance of ConfigMgr that may or may not be evident at this time which is often the case with doing unsupported things.

Have you tried the solution proposed by @AllenLiu-MSFT?

Yes. I found the location (the folder, where the Admin console files are downloaded to), but it is empty. I have also found this article, on a previous version and the same/similar thing failing. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/office-updates-fail-to-download-in-configuration-manager-current-branch-version-1910-5c9d6432-0c49-f118-17ba-6f715982b6a2

Not sure if this is something I should try. I am really new to SCCM and need help.

That is a completely unrelated issue.

Can you specifically note which location you are referring to that you found empty?

How about manually running it from the primary site server under the tools\consolesetup folder?

Are you able to see the attached image? I have been running this on the primary site server. I believe that this folder has an older version of the console. I have tried to perform a repair of the console. I have tried to install the console from there. I have removed the console and then ran the installer in this tools\consolesetup folder, it installed version .1800 and then prompted to upgrade to .3100 again, same result.

Just got to the easysetupayload folder corresponding to the last update you installed, then start Consolesetup.exe

like this :
D:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\EasySetupPayload\6b4f84b7-5555-48b0-aecc-74fb5a8aa24b\SMSSETUP\BIN\I386

Time to open a support case then as the site server is in some unknown state at this point.
