How to deploy a Physical Machine from a VHD?

Hi All

Can anybody provide step by step procedure how to deploy a Physical Machine, such a Laptop or Desktop from a VHD. I have created a VHD from my Desktop and now if I need to restore my Desktop from this VHD, I'm not getting the procedures? Not sure if it's even possible.

This is how I created a VHD from my Desktop: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/disk2vhd

Hi @SubhankarPatnaik ,

I've never tried this. But maybe this helps:

Hi,

Thanks for posting on our forum!

After you get your VHD, all you need is a kind of virtualization platform to boot your vhd. Microsoft has several kinds of virtualization platform, such as Hyper-V, Virtualbox. I have noticed that you use "Hyper-V" tag, so can I guess that you have installed Hyper-V? Whatever kind of virtualization platform you want to use, all you need to do is to create a VM using the vhd created from your Desktop.

On the basis that you have already decided to use Hyper-V and installed this platform successfully. Here is what you should do next:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/virtualization/hyper-v/get-started/create-a-virtual-machine-in-hyper-v

You just need to follow the steps to create a new VM, and choose "Existing virtual hard disk" when you in "Connect Virtual Hard Disk" Page.

Besides, if you actually want to put this vhd into a new PC and restore your desktop, then I think @AndreasBaumgarten has offered you the appropriate approach.

Thanks for your support!

BR,
Joan
