azure ad join device user cannot change password

i have an azure ad joined device via autopilot . when do ctr alt del > change password, it redirect to account.activedirectory.windowsazure.com. after i input current and new password, i get this message.

"we could not change your password

we're sorry, but we cannot change your password at this time. this is due to a client side issue, so if you try to close and open your browser, changing your password may succeed.

if the issue persists, please contact your admin to change your password for you."

however, if i change password via office 365 outlook web and passwordreset.microsoftonline.com, i am able to reset password.

This is most likely due to a network connectivity issue, such as an idle timeout, firewall problem, or proxy port issue.

Please check the troubleshooting guides for assistance.

It can also be an issue with a connection or setting on-premises if you have a hybrid environment. Sometimes this happens if the AD Connect service isn't running properly.

i found the below thread.

does it mean that i wont be able to change password this way if the device is azure ad joined and ctr-alt-del > change password and it will redirect to https://account.activedirectory.windowsazure.com/r/#/profile

Is the user being synced from your local AD or is this a cloud synced user?

The user is from a local ad and sync to azure ad.

Fist thing I would look at is the version of Microsoft Azure Active Directory Connect you are running. If you are behind you should update and then test it again.

The current version is 1.4.38.0 see this link for version history and changes https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/hybrid/reference-connect-version-history

I hope this points you in the right direction
