Are Intel CPU updates such as KB4589208 needed for Azure Server VMs?
@BrentNorway-6389 Firstly, apologies for the delay in responding here and any inconvenience this issue may have caused.
As our VMs were created in Azure and the microcode updates are for physical servers, Microcode updates are for physical hosts, KB4589208 for INTEL processors.
You should not be concerned about this update since it's related to CPU cores as they are required for host machines, were it work directly on CPU , Azure VMs updates are auto picked by windows update services within the Azure VM.
Note: If you need to confirm the precise hardware which you have you can reach out to the support team and get the details (node of azure)
Additional information: Manage updates and patches for your VMs
Important: Consult with your device manufacturer and Intel through their websites regarding their microcode recommendation for your device before you apply this update to your device.
Hope this helps!

Thank you for the response. Since these are Azure VMs - and the updates are related to specific hardware - wouldn't Microsoft manage these types of alerts? We don't have a way of knowing what the hardware is on the VMs provided by MS.
