"Microsoft Update Health Tools" missing in Windows 10

In light of the recent printnightmare exploit/vuln we're trying to use the quality updates expedite option via Intune, however from the test group we targeted the 2021.07 OOB against they've all failed with the error status "Not Registered".

We're slightly stuck with how to get the tools on the Windows 10 builds we have in the environment:

  • The Windows Update Catalog doesn't have a download for anything above 1803

  • Trying to install the KB via the Nuget package PSWindowsUpdate doesn't work, despite the module being imported and no error output from the cmdlets supported for installing KBs

Has anyone been able to get support on this or found an alternative way around getting the Update Health Tools out in their environment? I've had to change the update rings as a backup method to get the update rings to not have such a long deferral, but this isn't viable long term when we want to persist a standardised setup

@OllieSaleh-2781 Thanks for posting in our Q&A. I quite understand your confusion about this issue.

In fact, someone has discussed in the following link:
https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-intune/windows-10-quality-updates-update-healt-tool-missing/m-p/2453650

From your description, it seems that you failed to install Microsoft Update Health Tools via some methods. I think we should focus on why didn't install the Update Health tool automatically during update.

Given this situation, it is needed to check the background information to find the root cause. With Q&A limitation, it is suggested to create an online support ticket to handle this issue more effectively. It is free. Here is the online support link:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/fundamentals/get-support

Hope this issue will be solved as soon as possible.

Hi @LuDaiMSFT-0289

We've managed to get some movement on this with Microsoft Support. Microsoft published the Microsoft Update Health Tools as an MSI for 1809 and above which can be downloaded. They're published as "Unified Health Tools".

Just running this through testing now but looks promising and will be a huge help to the community.
