transfer DPM 2019 to new server

Hello everyone,

sorry not in our suitable category.

there is a task to transfer the DPM service to a new server, it is possible to do this correctly while maintaining all settings (protection groups, control points and everything else)
the pool remains the original (ISCSI connection)

I will be grateful for the instruction, thanks

I want to do everything right

Hi @AlexNick-3824,

Yes this is possible to do, to accomplish this you will need to follow the steps precisely as described below:

1. Install a new Windows Server on the side.
2. Install the exact same SQL Server with same updates (must be the same version).
3. Cancel all pending scheduled backup jobs and wait for running jobs to complete.
4. Backup the DPM database on the old server.
5. Copy the DPM database backup to the new server.
6. Shutdown the old DPM server.
7. Restore the DPM SQL database on the new server.
8. Install DPM 2019 + eventual Update Rollups (must be the same version), choose existing database.
9. Reconnect the iSCSI storage.
10. Run the following command: DPMSync -Sync
11. Open the DPM console and check agent communications and make sure DPM storage pool disks look good- then run consistency checks on all data sources.

HI @LeonLaude

thanks for the detailed guide
one moment, if the new server has a new domain name will this be a problem?

Unfortunately you cannot change the domain of the DPM server.
