Removed DNS entry keeps reappearing

We have 3 AD servers in our environment. For one of the AD servers, a secondhand IP would keep registering into DNS zone no matter how many times we remove it. The removed DNS entry will reappear in around reappear in 10, 20 or 60 minutes. We found the issue occurred around 1 week ago. Please advise.

Sincerely

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

My understanding is your DC owns 2 NICs and each NIC has its own static IP address. The reappeared static record belongs to one of these 2 network adapters. Please correct me if there is any misunderstanding.

Currently here is a plan you might try. Open the DNS console on the two-adapter machine. Right click the server and choose Properties. On the Interface tab, select “Only the following IP addresses” and uncheck the reappeared IP address of the static record. Then please check if the record still appear after deleting.

Sorry for the late response Sunny. We have followed the steps and the DNS entry no longer appears since then. Thank you so much!

Hi,

Welcome to Q&A platform.

Based on your description, my understanding is the issue should be related to DNS registry and dynamic update. I would like to confirm the following information for better understanding of your case.

  1. Are there two network adapters on your computer or is it two IP addresses assigned on the single adapter?

  2. Are the IP addresses static or assigned by DHCP server?

  3. Have you uncheck the box "Register this connection's addresses in DNS"? It locates in the advanced setting of IPv4 settings.

Best Regards,
Sunny
