On-premises Remote Desktop Services (RDS) in conjunction with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)

What is the recommended architecture for an organisation wanting to only move some virtualized applications up to Azure in a first project phase? How would that look from a client perspective to ensure a seamless end-user experience and best performance?

The assumption is that on-premises is connected to Azure through an ExpressRoute circuit.

HI

1.What is the recommended architecture for an organisation wanting to only move some virtualized applications up to Azure in a first project phase?
There is a document about "ExpressRoute connectivity models" for your reference. we can decide architecture according to our RDS environment.
ExpressRoute connectivity models
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/expressroute/expressroute-connectivity-models

2.How would that look from a client perspective to ensure a seamless end-user experience and best performance?
Yes. ExpressRoute circuit is good option. ExpressRoute connections don't go over the public Internet. This allows ExpressRoute connections to offer more reliability, faster speeds, consistent latencies, and higher security than typical connections over the Internet.

"You can create a connection between your on-premises network and the Microsoft cloud in four different ways, CloudExchange Co-location, Point-to-point Ethernet Connection, Any-to-any (IPVPN) Connection, and ExpressRoute Direct. Connectivity providers may offer one or more connectivity models. You can work with your connectivity provider to pick the model that works best for you."

Hello JiaYou-MSFT,

Thank you for providing details pertaining to ExpressRoute, however the main area of interest in this question is the how a hybrid RDS-AVD architecture and end-user experience would look from a desktop and application virtualization perspective.

HI

Thanks for your reply.

RDS is deployed in collection with Session-based or virtual machine-based deployment. There will be Published Desktops and Published RemoteApps. Meanwhile, WVD is deployment Host pool with Tenant, there will be Desktop App Group and RemoteApp App Group and no Server Manager.
End users will prefer to use WVD VM with win10 multisession version and RDS App-v will not need to be used in WVD environment. We can use MRD(Microsoft remote desktop from windows store)to remote access WVD VM or remote access RD session host server.
I am sorry, I haven't found hybird architecture diagram about using both RDS and WVD, but I think ExpressRoute connectivity is good option to connect On-premises Remote Desktop Services (RDS) with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).
