Azure Server Secret for VPN Setup

I downloaded the Azure Client VPN for macOS for my macbook through the app store. I tried setting up the Azure client but I cannot find the server secret to complete the setup. I have access to the Azure Gateway but I do not see it in the configuration files or settings. Can you provide details on how to extract the server secret so I can try using the Azure Client VPN?

@MacNghiem-5771 Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

Azure VPN Client only supports OpenVPN protocol so please make sure that in the configuration, you choose OpenVPN as Tunnel Type. Here are snapshots showing how to get access to the Server Secret.

As seen from the below snapshot, with the Tunnel Type OpenVPN, please click on "Download VPN client"

Then open the file that says AzureVPN

This should contain the Server Secret as shown below

Please let me know if you face any challenges withthe same and we will be glad to assist further. Thank you!

Hi SaiKishor-MSFT, my gateway is using IKEv2 and SSTP. I thought the Azure VPN client allowed for certificate authentication with IKEv2? I did perform the other steps previously but the server secret is not in the config file.

@MacNghiem-5771 I confirmed with our internal team that Azure VPN Client only supports Open VPN.

Hi SaiKishor, I'm coming back around to this. I can't change my gateway from using "IKEv2 and SSTP" to "IKEv2 and OpenVPN" due to constraints in my work environment. Since I can't use Azure VPN client on MacOS, is there any solution that I can use to access the Azure VPN from a mac device? I tried the built in VPN client on macOS to use IKEv2 but my connection is dropped every 7-10 mins.

Have you followed this guide?

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/azure/vpn-gateway/openvpn-azure-ad-client-mac

There’s a link within the doc to show how to extract the config profile and then import.

There are though some certain circumstances in which the VPN endpoint needs to be setup for, per; https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/updates/public-preview-of-azure-vpn-client-for-macos/

Hope that helps.

Hi MarkE, I did export the config profile and tried to import it so it didn't work. I then added the profile manually with the information from the config file but the server secret is missing.
