IEtoEdge BHO Group Policy issue

Hi,

I have an issue with the IEtoEDGE BHO setting in IE11. I have set the following policies

RedirectSitesFromInternetExplorerPreventBHOInstall (Policy enabled)

RedirectSitesFromInternetExplorerRedirectMode (Policy enabled, policy options mapping set to Disabled

The policy is applying to our devices, but when I check in IE11 the add-on still shows as installed and enabled, even after an update of Edge being applied.

What I want to confirm is, as long as the second policy is applied, will it stop redirection even if the add-on shows as enabled and why does it not uninstall the BHO add-on.

any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Hi @VincentKennedy-2214

  1. From the doc, it says The BHO is required for incompatible site redirection to occur, however whether redirection occurs or not is also controlled by RedirectSitesFromInternetExplorerRedirectMode. Besides, I also test with your group policy settings and I confirm that when the second policy is applied, it will stop redirection even if the add-on shows as enabled.

  2. I also test with an Edge update and the add-on is uninstalled after Edge is updated. After updating, my Edge version is Edge Stable 92.0.902.55. Please note that you need to use Edge Stable channel as it is said in the doc that If the BHO is already installed, it will be uninstalled the next time the Microsoft Edge Stable channel is updated.

Hi,

thanks for the reply, its good to know that even if it shows enabled the redirection is over ruled by the second policy.

in answer to the second part however we are on the stable channel and devices have updated in July to 92.0.902.55, but has NOT uninstalled the BHO. and it has set it back to enabled after it being changed back in May to disabled.

checking a gpresult the policy is applying, but just not uninstalling the BHO, its frustrating as this caused us major problems in May and some users can see it is now enabled again and contacting our service desk regarding perceived performance issues (we dont think this is the case, they are just Using the BHO showing enabled as an excuse)

Hi @VincentKennedy-2214

It's strange that it doesn't be uninstalled after you apply the policy. Please navigate to edge://policy/ in Edge and check if the policies have been applied well. My policies are like this:

I notice that you say the BHO is set back to enabled, but it was disabled before. Disable or don't configure policy RedirectSitesFromInternetExplorerPreventBHOInstall will install and enable the BHO. I guess that if the policy is disabled or not configured at a time which leads to the BHO being installed again.

For now, I think you can only wait for the next update of Edge to see if the BHO will be uninstalled if you have applied the policies correctly.
