My Windows Security SIgn in keeps popping up even after entering correct details

Hello,

I am on Windows 10 Enterprise and using Microsoft 365 office products.

I have an issue with my Windows Security Login popup. Whenever any application from Microsoft 365 tries to log in with my Microsoft account credentials via Security PIN, it goes into a loop.

Below I am trying to disable/change PIN/verify my identity in my sign in options in settings:

Below in my Excel Sign in:

Even if I click for other methods, it keeps looping to same window.

Also I am not able to close this popup any way even after closing my settings/excel. The popup remains on my screen until I restart.

Even clicking on cancel does nothing, it pops up again.

How can I resolve this?

Hi

This usually happens if the device you are using hasn't been verified for the Microsoft Account you are using and you have Apps that require a verified account to access data (e. g. Onedrive, settings sync, Mail, etc.)
We could verify a Windows 10 device via settings.
Go in to Settings and in the Accounts area there should be a link to verify your Microsoft Account to your device.

Also please check whether we have reached the maximum 10 devices verified to a Microsoft Account.
We could manage the list from Microsoft Account website to check if memory serves correctly.
https://account.microsoft.com/account

Hope the above information could bring you some help.
Best Regards

Hi.

Thank you for the response.

I just went in and checked my devices from: https://account.microsoft.com/devices/

I only have 1 device linked i. e. this laptop which is having problem.

Secondly, I went into the Settings>Accounts and it is asking me to verify my account however when I try to do it, it sends me to infinite loop I am facing. I can't even close that popup. It pops up again.

Also Note: I have turned off the Windows Hello sign in options such as PIN etc. but it still keeps on asking me the PIN.

Its really PITA and frustating.

I am using Windows 10 Enterprise, Microsoft 365 for office products, Onedrive. All these have same account. Only Outlook has different email account in it (My work).

Hi

Then what about the following methods?
1.We could try to lower account security level in User Account Control Settings to check if the problem still exists.
118994-72904.png
2.We could check whether we have turn two-step verification off.
The process to turn two-step verification on or off ,please refer to this link:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/how-to-use-two-step-verification-with-your-microsoft-account-c7910146-672f-01e9-50a0-93b4585e7eb4#:~:text=1%20Go%20to%20the%20Security%20basics%20page%20and,is%20one%20way%20we%20ensure%20you%20are%20
3.We also could sign in your Microsoft Account in another place.
If on another PC , your account still always needs to verify , then your account may have something wrong . If on another PC , you could use your account smoothly, then maybe your PC has some problems.

Hope these could help solve your problems.
Best Regards

Hi,

  1. My UAC is at lowest level. It never prompts me.

  2. I turned off my 2FA, still problem persists.

  3. I do not have any other Win 10 laptop/PC to check this on. My Other systems are still on Windows 7 due to some software requirements.

However I do think the problem is indeed with my PC and not the account. I really have loads of apps/data and do not want to wipe/reinstall.

Hi

I apologize for my late response.
Here is a link who has a similar problem and we could take a look at his solutions:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_onedrivefb-mso_win10-mso_o365b/repeatedly-asked-to-login-with-error-we-cant-save/a25af84a-66ee-4bb6-9f37-ced4fa266f32

If you do think the problem is indeed with your PC , we could reinstall Windows.
We know that you have loads of apps/data, then we could choose the reinstall options.
About reinstall types , we could refer to this link:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/reinstall-windows-d8369486-3e33-7d9c-dccc-859e2b022fc7#:~:text=Use%20the%20installation%20media%20to%20reinstall%20Windows%2010,data%2C%20apps%2C%20and%20settings.%20...%20More%20items...%20
Perhaps reinstall Windows 10 using installation media is one of the best choices which we could try.

Best Regards

Hi,
No worries.

I went through the thread. The only relevant solution was to make sure to have latest version of office which I already have which I checked.

Another solution is to use dropbox which also I am using anyway however I do need my windows to work perfectly. Don't know where this actually makes a roadblock for me and for sure the autosave function seems good to have.

And it seems as I am facing this issue on a windows prompt even if it is also in Office product, I am also facing it in Settings as well, It seems to be Windows issue.

Reinstall will be really pain in some place as I do have loads of work apps and data.

isnt there any option to just disable this kind of login prompt? So that I can login in office apps using online browser login or web api login. Why does it have to use my windows security to log in to office apps.

The real evil here is the CredentialUIBroker.exe which is the process/app which is causing this login prompt.

119532-capture.png

Is there any way we can try to replace it with original or patch it somehow?

I even tried doing things shown here also:

I https://superuser.com/questions/1495320/cannot-use-win10-hello-pin-looping-dialog

I created 2nd local account and tried setting PIN there which is not successful. So I think the problem is in Windows itself.

I cant use the real benefits of Microsoft 365 now:

Hi
Thanks for updating your problems here.

We still advise you to check your Microsoft account whether has something wrong before make any changes on your PC.
If you insist on removing credentialuibroker.exe from your PC, we could refer to this link:

However, here is an inportant warning: This article shows a general guide how to remove any file from your computer. It DOES NOT implies that credentialuibroker.exe is harmful. Be aware of removing executable files from your computer without deeper knowledge of what you're doing.

Hello,

I ended up reinstalling my windows. I performed clean install formatting and repartitioning.

It chew up 2 days of my schedule doing all this, reinstalling apps, moving data etc. Now I am back up and running however don't really know if I missed something.

I hope nobody faces such situation however. As we could not pinpoint the root cause of this issue.
