Use Azure virtual machine as my Windows 10 pro PC on a Linux system?

For some programs I need Windows. My computer is not consuming Windows 10 pro very well.
So I would like to change the computer to a linux system and run my Windows 10 pro in the cloud for the few times I still need Windows. Can I use my Windows 10 Pro Licence in the cloud? And how to go about it? Thank you.

Up to 10 attachments (including images) can be used with a maximum of 3.0 MiB each and 30.0 MiB total.

It seems that your issue is more related to Azure virtual machine, I will help to add related tag and remove our windows 10 network tag. Appreciate your understanding.

@RudiBloes-0322 Apologies for the delay in response and all the inconvenience caused because of the issue.

As mentioned here The license to run Windows Server in the Azure environment is by default included in the per-minute cost of your Windows Virtual Machine.

Windows Server licenses are not eligible for License Mobility through Software Assurance, but customers licensing Windows Server with Software Assurance can utilise the Azure Hybrid Benefit for a cheaper per-minute cost when running a Windows Virtual Machine.

Licences for use of Windows Server on-premises (whether in a virtual hard disk (VHD) or otherwise) must be obtained separately through volume licensing.

Now the above information is applicable to Windows Server where you need to have Software Assurance in place.

We have another mechanism for Windows 10 with Multitenant Hosting rights where you can bring your own Windows 10 license to Azure to use that.

Now the supported version are as below:

  • Microsoft 365 E3/E5

  • Microsoft 365 F3

  • Microsoft 365 A3/A5

  • Windows 10 Enterprise E3/E5

  • Windows 10 Education A3/A5

  • Windows VDA E3/E5

This clearly states that Windows 10 pro is not included in this scenario. Now for that I did some digging and found this which can help you to upgrade from Pro to Enterprise license but you need to check pre requisite for same.

Once done you can refer to this to create the Windows 10 on Azure with Multitenant Hosting Rights.

In short Windows 10 pro license is not eligible to be moved to cloud directly since it supports Windows server one under Azure Hybrid Benefit.Even though Windows Server is not covered under licence mobility, volume licensing customers can still upload their own image containing Windows Server to Azure, if they are bringing it as part of Licensing Mobility for another product that is being brought over.

We will charge the Windows Server Virtual Machine rate applicable for their instance.

Customers can get access to a cheaper per-minute-cost by utilising the Azure Hybrid Benefit.

Customers are responsible for proper licensing of any application or middleware in the image. Also the Multitenant part support Enterprise edition.

The most easier way is to buy VM from Azure with license included. You can save on cost as well in this scenario. You can use our Azure Pricing Calculator to check how much it will cost you based upon your specification here.

And as such for using Linux and Windows together on system this might help you.

Hope it helps!!!
