Tomorrow July 31, 2021, Skype for Business Online will be retired. After that, the cloud is in "TeamsOnly" mode.
I have a customer that is running on-prem installation of Skype for Business and they would like to start the migration to Teams.
I'm reading the documentation and thinking what are the benefits to implement the hybrid configuration after July 31, 2021, to just migrate the users?
So, the only thing that you get is the automatic meeting migration to Teams?
After the migration is done, you still need to do:
Disable hybrid to complete migration to Teams Only
Update DNS entries
Decide how to manage attributes after decommissioning (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/skypeforbusiness/hybrid/cloud-consolidation-managing-attributes)
Remove on-premises Skype for Business deployment
So, to remove the on-premises deployment, you need to remove all the attributes and then write those back, or manage these users with online tools.
What other benefits we get to implement hybrid mode after the July 31, 2021? We don't use any phone features on-premises. Just IM, meetings and federations.
I'm thinking would it be more easier and faster to just remove the on-premises Skype for Business deployment and attach the necessary license in Office 365, update the DNS and start using Teams. Ok, we need to re-schedule the meetings, but I think we can handle that.
