Configure Cache server for Standalone Intune Managed clients

Hi All,

I have a requirement of setting up delivery optimization for Standalone Intune Managed devices through a cache server. requirement is to stop downloading windows update from Internet. again, we have SCCM server as well in our network but we don't enable Co-Management yet. SCCM and Intune are managing separately.

I have seen a concept called Connected Cache and wondering whether I can use this feature with Standalone Intune managed devices if these client and sccm server in a same network.

if I set up DP server as a cache server, is it possible to use as a cache server for Standalone Intune Managed devices?(Devices not managed through SCCM, only through Intune but same network)

Thanks,
Dilan

Yes. There's no technical requirement for the clients to be managed by ConfigMgr to use the Microsoft Connected Cache (MCC) component that is part of ConfigMgr.

@Jason-MSFT Thank you very much!

one thing, I saw some where about configuring DHCP option 235 via GPO. I was wondering do I need to configure this DHCP option things via GPO or following the below options only be enough?

1) Enable distribution point as Microsoft Connected Cache server
2) Enable a client to use Microsoft Connected cache on SCCM Client settings
3) Create a Delivery Optimization policy in Intune and deploy cache server settings on Intune Standalone clients.

Thanks again,
Dilan

The option is for grouping systems which can be done in multiple different ways. Without this grouping DO does not have a way to determine which peers should share content with each other. Instead of grouping, you can also restrict DO to subnets -- this potentially limits the effectiveness of DO at locations with more than one subnet though.

@Jason-MSFT

Grouping or DO subnets can be done through DO Policy in Intune right? so in this case we don't need to create a GPO with DHCP option, do we?

what do you recommended from below three option?

Technically can I used any of below three option?

Option1:

Option2:

Correct.

Whatever works for you. We have multiple options as there isn't a one size fits all answer here.

Technically can I used any of below three option?

Yes. For your Option 1 above though, you should select a group ID source though as that mode (2) specifically is for using groups so not having a group source may not be valid.

I would never use mode 3 though in anything but a trivial environment.
