Hyper V External Virtual Switch-Unidentified Network on Host and VM

Hi All,

I am new to the world of virtualization and have been experimenting with a test server and test VM. The goal is to convert servers we are currently running on bare metal to virtual machines.

I was able to create a test VM from a test server. I couldn't get my test VM to boot using the Starwind Converter software. I had better luck getting the converted HD to boot using Disk2VHD.

But now I am stuck. I have tried everything under the sun to get the Test VM to connect to our external network on its Windows 10 Hyper V host, but have hit a block. The virtual switch is associated with the physical NIC on the host machine. I have assigned valid static IP addresses to both the VNIC on the host device and on the VM itself. But there is no connectivity. Both switches present a status of "unidentified network."

I was sure to enable "Allow management operating system to share this network adapter" and "Enable virtual LAN identification" for management operating system with the appropriate VLAN number that the physical NIC is connected to on the host machine.

Could there be an configuration issue happening at the level of the Cisco switch the host machine is connected to?

I have done a bunch of research and tried a bunch of things related to these settings but am scratching my head.

Please let me know if I can provide you with any screenshots or other documentation that might be helpful in troubleshooting.

Thank you very much.
