Sharepoint 2019 - cannot see targeted audience link

Hi,

I'm using some links on the Global Navigation of a sharepoint site collection. I am a site collection administrator and my user is part of the Site Owners sharepoint group. However I cannot see the link on the top navigation. Any idea of what might be causing this?

When I enter the website, with my user, it says on the top right corner System Account instead, but when I click About me, it shows my username.

Thank you

Hi @Swares ,

System account is the same account used by application pool of your SharePoint web application in IIS at the time of creation/extension of respective web application.

This happens when you use the Farm Admin account as the AppPool identity for a web application. Because the system is running in the context of the logged in account it shows the account as System rather than the actual display name.

Reference:
Displaying System Account instead of Current User in SharePoint 2016

===========Update1================
Per my test in my SP 2019, I am able to reproduce your issue. I set audience targeting on 'Home' :

When the user is the Administrator:

When the user is another user in the group it's normal:

=============================

According to my test, I found a workaround. We just need to create a new group and change the group owner from system account to your account, then add the group in the settings:

At last:

Hi,
The link is a global navigation link, which has targeted audience to the Sharepoint Owners group. I am a user of that sharepoint group.

Hi @ElsieLu-MSFT,

I am not using the local administrator, I'm using a active directory user, which is part of the Sharepoint server administrators group.
I can't test this at the moment as I'm starting holidays, but will test it back in September. I'll mark it as answer for now and reopen if necessary, is that good for now? Thank you.

Hi @Swares ,

Of course you can, feel free to reopen this thread if there is any issue after the test, and we will continue to follow up. :)

Wish you a happy holiday!

Thanks,
Elsie Lu
