How do I perform Windows Update Troubleshooter manually?

Hi. Recently we have encountered a problem on some machines that reports 0x80244017 to our SCCM server when performing software update scan. We've found a fix of the problem which is running the troubleshooter in control panel. But it seems like that this fix can't be applied to 2012 R2 server since the "Windows Update" option doesn't exist in the troubleshooting page.

We've tried to download wu10.diagcab from http://aka.ms/wudiag but it said "An error occurred while troubleshooting" and prompt the 0x80070002 error

We've also tried to copy the files from C:\Windows\diagnostics\system\WindowsUpdate on a Windows Server 2016 machine and run DiagPackage.diagpkg and it also has an error of 0x80092003.

Tried to :

stop windows update service.
delete everything under C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution .
start windows update service.
try again to update.

But it didn't fix the problem.

In the Server 2016 machine that has run the troubleshooter, it sad it had fixed the following things:

Some security settings are missing or have been changed

Service registration is missing or corrupt

Windows Update Components must be repaired.

Is there anyway I can run the fix on the 2016 machine manually on the 2012 R2 machine so I can fix the issue? Thanks.

There are third party software that have scripts to troubleshoot Windows update / upgrade failures.

Hi, @CUCOOPE-7170
Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

I think we'd better figure out why the machines report 0x80244017, the error usually related to HTTP time-out or authentication, so we should verify connectivity with the WSUS computer. During a scan, the Windows Update Agent must communicate with the ClientWebService and SimpleAuthWebService virtual directories on the WSUS computer to run a scan. If the client can't communicate with the WSUS computer, the scan fails. This issue can occur for several reasons, including:

1.port configuration
2.proxy configuration
3.firewall issues
4.network connectivity

For more details and troubleshooting steps, we may refer to below article:
