Cumulative update kb5004238 is not installing on server 2016

Hi All,

I have been trying to update cumulative update KB5004238 from a month now. Tried everything possible reset windows components, sfc /now ran couple of times but it completes without any errors. We are not using any WSUS server of we have not configured any policies regarding updates.

Please help me as I am facing this issue on my 3 servers which are most critical.

Hi @ArsalanAli-0519,

Have you make sure the the latest Servicing Stack Update (SSU) is installed?

Did you read through the Before installing this update section under the How to get this update which can be found in the KB article of the KB5004238 update?

Before installing this update

Microsoft strongly recommends you install the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system before installing the latest cumulative update (LCU). SSUs improve the reliability of the update process to mitigate potential issues while installing the LCU and applying Microsoft security fixes. For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates and Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions.

If you are using Windows Update, the latest SSU (KB5001402) will be offered to you automatically. To get the standalone package for the latest SSU, search for it in the Microsoft Update Catalog.

If the reply was helpful please don't forget to upvote and/or accept as answer, thank you!

Best regards,
Leon

What error are you receiving when attempting to install the update? Did you also reboot at least twice after that?
