Size of onedrive folder on my internal C: drive

Hi

I recently purchased a laptop with a 1GB internal C: Drive, and signed up for OneDrive with the same Microsoft User Account as the login account for the laptop itself. I selected the 'Save to OneDrive' option. This also enabled the 'Files On Demand' option.

Since then, I have switched off the Files On Demand option. However Backup is still in operation and my changes on the hard drive are synching to OneDrive in the cloud.

I notice that the OneDrive folder size is much larger than seems to be required. The files that I have selected for backup are at total of about 130GB, and even the total size of all files in my Documents and Pictures folders is only 250GB. Also, only 130 GB is stored on OneDrive in the cloud.

However, the space remaining on my C: drive is only 475GB, slightly less than half the physical storage space. What is the rest of the space being used for and can it be retrieved? I assume that a big chunk of the C Drive was allocated for the OneDrive folder at the outset but since most of this is not being used, this seems to me a big waste of space.

Is it possible to reduce the size of the OneDrive Folder? Or could the lack of space on the C: drive have some other cause?

All suggestions welcome
Alan

According to compmgmt. msc the size of the drive is only 488GB. Puzzled by this because the seller specified 1TB. But will check this first, before proceeding with the enquiry above.
