CDC for Attunity Status Aborted and Update CDC Error in CDC Designer

Hi, CDC for Oracle by Attunity connected to SQL Server 2017 CU21. (Same issue after applying CU25)

Intermittently (3 times in a month?) generates "Error: Service <CDC Service name>:  ORACDC205E: The Oracle CDC instance <CDC Instance name> was aborted. Usually recovers automatically. From yesterday morning, error occurs but does not recover.

Adjusting properties on CDC Designer, an Update CDC Error error dialog is displayed Error occurred while updating CDC Capture tables - The given key was not present in the dictionary. The error is in UpdateCaptureTables.

Where do I even start?

Hi @JohnMinihan-6140,

You may collect diagnostics to gather logs for more details to troubleshooting the error.

resolutions-with-cdc-for-oracle-attunity

Here is a same issue kb4500595-fix-cdc-source-preview-fails-with-the-given-key-was-not-present-in-the-dictionary-error which has been fixed in SQL Server 2017 CU15, so it is really strange about your issue.

I'd like suggest that you submit the issue at https://feedback.azure.com/forums/908035-sql-server.

If the issue mentioned by customers for many times, the product team may help deal with it. Your feedback is valuable for us to improve our products and increase the level of service provided.

Regards,

Zoe

Hi Zoe, thanks for your response. It looks as though the feedback option is no longer there (since yesterday?). I did log this issue on there but can't find the forum now...

It appears as though a generic error can result in the service going to ABORTED status. I haven't been able to find the underlying error.

Hi JohnMinihan-6140, thanks for your feedback.

I'm not familiar with CDC for Oracle by Attunity. I'm doing some online research to see if there is any useful message for us to resolve the issue. You may keep this case open for that if any other user has good idea about the issue.

Hi Zoe, Thanks for your response...

There is very little info in the Diagnostics log:

I first received the Update CDC Error issue when trying to configure the CDC Designer to generate more useful diagnostics!

What is strange is that there is, presumably, an issue updating the CDC capture Tables, while the cdc.xdbcdc_state table is correctly updated to ABORTED status...!
