sorry for the basic question, I just created a new CETAS (external table as a select) using azure synapse on demand, when the data source change will CETAS refresh automatically , or how to refresh a CETAS ?

Yes, external table CTAS will have a reference link to the external location (Ex: Blob File) and it automatically refreshes according to the source as shown below. (I have uploaded file again to Blob after adding new row - 4th)

Hi @mim-6142,

Thanks for letting me know. For CETAS, the refresh does not happen automatically as the primary purpose of CETAS in SQL On demand is to create an external table and export query results to destination(ADLS usually) and it does not establish link with the source in select statement and hence it is One time load. Alter and Delete (DML Operations) are not supported with External tables and hence preferred way is to drop and create the external tables to reload/refresh them.
