I had previously tried to upgrade my VMM 2016 1807 environment to 2019 but this led to an issue where restoring checkpoints was met with a MAC address error. The developers relied on being able to restore these checkpoints on a regular basis and so I had to roll back the upgrade and the restores started working again. Now I really need to upgrade so I can support 2019 hosts but I have the luxury of a lab environment and was able to recreate the issue.
The process - Upgrade VMM 2016 1807 to VMM 2019 UR3 using these instructions -
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/system-center/vmm/upgrade-vmm?view=sc-vmm-2019
VM in question is a 5.0 configuration with a static MAC address, restoring checkpoints works fine on VMM 2016 1807
After the upgrade to VMM 2019 any checkpoint restore throws a 25270 error - VMM failed to allocate a MAC address to network adapter. However, after refreshing the VM, the Event Log and VMM - Manage Checkpoints agrees that the checkpoint restore did actually succeed and the VM will start.
Nothing has changed about the VM during the upgrade process so what causes this error?
Thanks
