If we archive a team what type of documents it puts on read only mode?

If we archive a team what type of documents it puts on read only mode? Is there any option to put all type of document on read only mode in teams as we want to migrate large number of teams and if users are making changes then it wont be migrated which was happened during migration?

I have seen a behavior of excel files which allows users to make changes after archiving that particular team. so how we can stop this or what is feasible solution for this?

@VinodSurvase-1595,

When you archive teams, please remember to check the box of Make the SharePoint site read-only for teams members. The files are saved and managed in SharePoint site.

The following shows the steps:

  1. Click the Gear icon at the bottom of the page > then click three dots next to the team which you want to archive > choose Archive team.

  2. On the pop-up window, check the box of Make the SharePoint site read-only for teams members > click Archive button.

Here is a document listing two ways to archive teams. Please note Option 1: Archive MS Teams via Team Settings and Option 2: Archive MS Teams via the Teams Admin Center parts.

There is a note that team owners can still make changes to the files in archive teams. For members, they have read-only access to the files in archive teams.

@VinodSurvase-1595,

As I know, it needs no more operations. I tested this in my environment, the read-only icon shows beside excel files as below:

Please note that team owner can still edit all the files even if you archive this team. Read-only access is only applied to members. Perhaps, you could wait for a while to see if it will take effect.

Hi @SharonZhao-MSFT , I archived team from Teams admin center but excel file was not put on read only mode but word, PowerPoint and some PDF files were put on read only mode. Does it take some time or is there any special requirement?
