Wsus update superseded or not

Hello,
I found a curious bug or discrepantie on my wsus server about updates marked as superseded or not.
I have a main wsus server who gets it updates daily from the internet and a wsus replica server who daily updates from the first on.

Both servers have the same amount AND the same updates approved, sofar so good.

But on the replica server I find updates who have a icon superseded and also the banner "This update is superseded......... ". On the main wsus server the same updates have no icon and banner. On both wsus servers there is no superseding info in the additional details.

Also on the replica server i find an update that is marked as superdseded, while on the mail wsus server this update is marked as supersedes an update. The additional details is different but consistent with the superseding marking. ?!?!

I use AjTek wsus clean script to keep my wsus clean, but i cannot imagine that this script is messing up the superseding info

Some tech info:
Main Wsus server
- runs on windows server 2019 version 1809 os version 17763.2114 with all updates installed,
- build about 1 year ago
- wsus version 10.0.17763.1
- sql server 2017 v.14.0.3401.7

Replica wsus server
- runs on windows server 2019 version 1809 os version 17763.2114 with all upfades installed
- build about 1 month ago from scratch
- wsus version 10.0.17763.1
- sql server 2019 v. 15.0.4153.1

Hope some body has a bright idea about this.
Ernst

Sorry for the little delay in response, I enjoyed a bit time off.

I gathered a couple samples together for you to investigate. Comming monday i am back in office and can grab more if you like. First i thought it was a problem with old KB numbers, but i found and added here also rather new ones.

  1. I made a screenshot of the all updates list on the wsus main server (internet connected) and the same list at the wsus replica server. Yes after just replicated the 2 servers with each other.

  2. I made screenshots of the details of 3 KB numbers form the main and replica.

The KB numbers are KB5001923, KB5001921, KB5003435 exchange 2016 CU19 and 2019 CU8127993-wsus-main-all-updates-list.jpg127907-wsus-replica-all-updates-list.jpg127917-wsus-main-kb5001923-64bit-details.jpg127994-wsus-replica-kb5001923-64bit-detail.jpg127908-wsus-main-kb5001951-64bit-details.jpg127948-wsus-replica-kb5001951-64bit-detail.jpg127967-wsus-main-kb5003435-details.jpg127918-wsus-replica-kb5003435-detail.jpg

I would like to add the related products and classifications in my environment and review whether the phenomenon appear on my lab. In addition, I recommended to sync the metadata on the downstream WSUS server successfully and confirm whether the issue stays or not.

I will come back as soon as possible if the test is over.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

Regards,
Rita

Here is an update I want to share with you. I sync the related updates however the issue did not appear on my lab. Here are several screenshots for your reference:

I suspect that the downstream WSUS didn't sync the whole updates from the upstream WSUS. It is recommended to sync again and then confirm whether the issue stays or not.

Rita
