production use / commercial use

I and my teacher are using Microsoft 365 Dev at university. We wrote articles (we pay some money to journals. They don't give any money), edited and printed university documents. Microsoft's special algorithm extended our license. Is these actions commercial or non-commercial?

This issue is more related to legal issues which are not supported on Q&A forum, tag "Office-deployment" focus on general issues of Office deployment.
I want to help you, but I am not an expert on this type of issues.
Thanks for your understanding.

As far as I know, Microsoft 365 developer subscription is used for application development only. Following screenshot is taken from "Set up a Microsoft 365 developer sandbox subscription".

I would suggest you contact Microsoft directly via chatting online or by phone, and then try to have a confirm.
