Autodiscover pointing to old server

Hi

We just noticed our autodiscover is pointing to an old server that has been decommissioned.

The MX and SPF record for the same domain point to exchange online. Our SPF record does contain some IP's and mailers etc.

What would be the impact in this case of removing the incorrectly configured autodiscover and pointing it to exchange online?

Or would it be better changing the IP of the existing record to point to our actual on prem exchange server?

We do not have any mailboxes on prem but we relay etc for 3rd partys and certain programs via this on prem exchange server

Hi @HenrikBrown-7684 ,

Please check if the legacy Exchange SCP still exists and if so, you could delete it.
And also check the virtual directory settings of your new Exchange server autodiscover and other services. The URLs should be pointing to the new server or a URL that you modified manually.

What would be the impact in this case of removing the incorrectly configured autodiscover and pointing it to exchange online?
Actually I don't think there will be any "impact" since your mail system is mainly based on Exchange Online and you didn't receive any errors even the autodiscover was still pointing to the legacy server right?

Or would it be better changing the IP of the existing record to point to our actual on prem exchange server?
If you mean the SPF IP list still include the legacy server's, then you'd better change it to new server's.

Best regards,
Lou

Hi

I am unsure what you mean re the virtual directories can you elaborate?

Re the SCP for legacy exchange if we dont remove that but change the autodisover to exchange online will that cause any issues?

Hi @HenrikBrown-7684 ,

The Virtual Directory is associated with the IIS: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/clients/default-virtual-directory-settings?view=exchserver-2019

Yes, you can change the autodiscover url to online's.

Best regards,
Lou
