My computer has Windows 10 installed. Since yesterday, I have been unable to sign in to it.
Windows 10 starts normally up to the lock screen. Then, albeit there are several users on the computer, I'm only allowed to sign in with the last one that used the computer. When I insert the password for that user, the following error message appears:
The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in.
User profile cannot be loaded.
I'm able to reach the Troubleshoot screen through restarting the computer while holding the Shift key. From there, I have tried the following options.
I booted into safe mode and safe mode with networking. In both occasions, the same problems happened.
I booted into safe mode with command prompt. This time, the computer seemed to accept the password as I tried to sign in, and after a considerable waiting time a single command prompt window appeared but I still couldn't do anything else.
I have tried to check my disks for errors by going to the command prompt option in Troubleshoot and using the
chkdsk c: /f /randchkdsk d: /f /rcommands (for administrator privileges, I was prompted to insert the password of another account, the only one with such privileges on the computer, and it accepted it). Both times, nothing strange was found. In the same command prompt window, i tried the
regeditcommand and a Registry Editor window appeared. I made my way toHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList, where I could only see theS-1-5-18,S-1-5-19andS-1-5-20folders.
Thus, although I found several articles with instructions for what to do when encountering the The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded error message, such as The IT Bros' and Tech Advisor's, I couldn't replicate the solutions they provide and I'm at a standstill.
