Share access issues for a certain user

Got a user who is able to login to other computers and access a share, but when he logs into his own computer he cannot. Seems like something up with his profile I'm sure. I was able to login to his computer with my account that has the same permissions as him, and access the share no problem. Trying to see if there is some way I can get his user account to refresh or update or find out what is blocking him from accessing the share before I have him totally blow his profile away. When I do whoami /groups he is even showing up in the group we use for that share. So his computer does seem to be seeing he is in that domain group. Appreciate any ideas or suggestions to try.

Thanks, Jay

The solution to this problem ended up having to do with the user having stored windows credentials for the same resource (share) using different credentials than his normal credentials. (ex. He had once mapped to the share as jsmith_sa instead of jsmith.) Apparently, those stored creds no longer had access to the share and were causing him to get the access denied error. After going into Control Panel, Clicking on User Accounts, Manage your credentials, Windows Credentials, delete any stored credential(s) listed underneath, then rebooting, he was then able to successfully access the share.

Hi Jay9x,

Thank you for your question,

I recommend creating a test profile for the device, to create a new profile just follow the steps below:

1) Select Start > Settings > Accounts and then select Family & Other Users. (On some versions of Windows, you will see Other Users.)

2) Select Add another person to this PC. Select I don't have this person's login information, and on the next page, select Add a user without a Microsoft account.

3) Enter a username, password or password hint - or choose security questions - and select Next.

Change a local user account to an administrator account

1) Select Start >Settings > Accounts.

2) Under Family & Other Users, select the account owner's name (you should see "Local Account" below the name) and select Change Account Type.

3) Under Account Type, select Administrator, then select OK, Enter the new administrator account.

After that, just run the test again and check if the problem persists.

If the answer was helpful, please don't forget to vote up or accept as an answer, thanks.

Yours sincerely,

Samuel
