Global Address List not updating?

I'm having an issue with the built-in Windows 10 email app not updating the Global Address List (GAL).

We have a one way Azure AD Connector syncing from on-prem to the Office 365.

After editing a user's name (and waiting 3 whole days), the GAL does not update the new change in the built-in Windows 10 email app. This is the ONLY app I'm having this issue with. The Global Address List DOES update using the Outlook email client and using a browser and going to Office.com. So basically, the change to the user did happen however I'm not seeing it in this built-in Windows 10 email app

Is there a way to update this built in email app on Windows 10 so it will update the GAL?

Thanks,

Hi @HampshireKeith-3574,

As there’s no issue in the Outlook client or OWA, seems that the issue needs to be investigated further from the Windows Mail App side. Please understand that under “office-exchange-server-administration” and “office-outlook-itpro” tag, we only support general questions about Exchange server and Outlook client, so I’ll update the thread to remove these two tags.

Based on my personal experience, you can try reconfiguring the email account in the Mail app and see if the GAL can get updated. In case the issue persists, it’s recommended to post your issue in the dedicated forum for Windows Mail app for further assistance:

Hello Keith H,

Thank you for your question.

It could be a temporary issue linked to the Mail application or the windows 10 version, if you are on an old windows version this can contribute to usability issues on the system.

To check your version: Press Windows key + R and type: winver and press Enter

If the version that appears to you is one of these: 1903, 1909, 2004 or 20H2, it means that you are using an old version of windows 10, we recommend that you update urgently.

To update to recent version follow the steps below

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Step 1: Access the above link and select the Update Now option, an application will be downloaded in which you must install on your computer.

Step 2: when installing you must open the application and the download, verification and installation of the recent version will start.

Step 3: After you will be asked to restart the device to complete the update, after a few minutes you will have the latest version.

If the answer was helpful, please don't forget to vote up or accept as an answer, thanks.

Yours sincerely,
Samuel
