Windows 10 - Cached credentials "lost" - how to get the program that did it

Hi everyone,

i am working in a corporate environment.
Today i left the office. Standby. And tried to login "offline" - my cached credentials were gone.
CachedLogon is default at 10
Another cached credential was still there (i could log in with that). So it was not "wiped out".

How can i find out which program / service did that? I tried an advanced hunting query for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Cache . but i do not get any hits.
Recently we installed a bunch of drivers from HP. (WLAN, Graphics, BIOS) and we have 2 cases for now - same notebook type.

Best regards
Stephan

Hi Stephen

Unfortunately, Windows domain credentials do not expire in the cache. Within Active Directory, expiration is set on the user object. But if the credential is still valid in Active Directory, the cached copy will still work.

Quit all Office apps. Go to Control Panel> User Accounts> Credential Manager > Windows Credentials> Generic Credentials> remove all credentials related to Office. Then launch Word and sign in, open the document, check if you can save changes in it.

If the issue persists, please let us know the information below for troubleshooting:

  1. Where do you save the document? In a local computer or OneDrive for business or SharePoint library?

  2. Please share s screenshot of the error message.

  3. Does the issue happen when you save a specific document or all documents?

  4. In Word, please click File>Account and capture a full screenshot of Product Information. (to protect your privacy, please mask your email address.)

Sorry. It was my mistake.
It was a big coincidence that 2 cases happend. I played around with the protected users group.

I missed the last point: A cached verifier is not created at sign-in or unlock, so offline sign-in is no longer supported.

The other case had another problem.
Thanks for your help anyway :)
