W10 - Windows Update issues

Hello,

There are two issues on the same computer that I need to resolve:

The W10 computer is a member of a domain.

  1. Inability to pause updates.

Normally it’s possible to pause updates for 7 days but on this computer this option is greyed out with a message advising this setting is controlled by “her organisation”. I have checked AD group policy thoroughly and am sure that this setting is not coming from group policy. The question that I have then, if not Group Policy, then what?

  1. 21H1 update keeps attempting to re-install

I’ve tried everything I can think of to stop this update installing, including deleting the distribution directory, using WSUS and about 100 other things. Nothing helps. At every restart it rolls back and then is “ready to go” when you look at updates after a restart.

I guess issue #2 is a function of issue #1.

I want to pause updates on this computer.

Would appreciate troubleshooting suggestions.

Thanks

Vaughan

Have you checked gpupdate /force command?
How about checking applied Group Policy using gpresult /r command?

Yes, have tried gpupdate /force. There was no change in behaviour.

For further testing I moved the computer to a separate OU with another test machine. I created a policy to enable the pausing of updates. It changed on the test machine. Then I changed the policy to disable the pausing of updates (gpupdate /force). Changed on the test machine to allow pausing. No change on this computer.
