Windows 10 21H1 Display Resolution reset on restart - Windows Update Medic?

Z370 mobo. i7-8700 cpu. nvidia gtx 1050 video. Fresh install of windows 10 21h1. Do not use cpu gpu (igpu). igpu sort of disabled in bios, default is set to pcie video card. Using latest patches and driver updates.
Updated mobo bios to handle TPM.

Now when ever I restart Windows 10 the display resolution resets back to default but after a minute it reverts to my configured setting. At 1st I though it had something to do with the Windows Update Medic service/task. I was wrong.

The issue is the firmware bios update. Best practice is whenever you update bios you reset to defaults. Make sure you remember any bios changes you made before hand. Once I reset and configured bios I reinstalled the OS just to be safe. Now the video resolution reset issue does not occur. I suspect many people will be updating mobo bios for TPM and Windows 11. Hope this helps.

My apologies. What I left out was I did a firmware update on the mobo bios. I did it for updated TPM support which enhanced the firmware and discrete options. As of now it appears what I failed to do were 2 things:

  • reset the mobo bios to defaults

  • new install of windows 10

The latter may be optional...

My fix at this point is as above: reset mobo bios to defaults and configure, then do a fresh install.
