Using HoloLens 2 Emulator for my master's without Windows 10 Pro

Hi!

I'm writing a master's thesis in informatics about combining state-of-the-art visual and auditory technology to create an approachable way of making music. The study group I'm with just got their HoloLens 2, and I'm eager to get into development at home. However, I can't, as I can't run the HoloLens Emulator on Windows 10 Home due to no Hyper-V support, and the upgrade costs $180 I don't have.

From what I can tell, Hyper-V is supposed to be for running multiple virtual machines on commercial servers, so why is HoloLens development restricted to the commercial Windows 10 Pro? Is there any way to make the emulator run on Windows 10 Home, or test your progress at all?

    Unfortunately, your system must support Hyper-V for the Emulator installation to succeed. Reference the System Requirements section below for details: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/develop/install-the-tools

    Hi there,

    Windows 10 Home edition doesn’t support Hyper-V feature, it can only be enabled on Windows 10 Enterprise, Pro, or Education .You need at least Pro or higher edition with 64-bit installation for using Hyper-V.

    For your case you can try out some third party Emulator and see if that is helpful.
