Windows Update : automatic vs manual check behavior (aka "standalone" updates).

Hi,

Following a case open at Microsoft regarding "standalone" updates (KB4589208, KB4589212) that broke some VMs (W2019 and W10) , I have been informed that a Manual "Check for Updates" behaves differently than the automatic one :
When clicking "Check for Update", more KBs are fetched, including some so-called" standalone" updates, such as KB4589208 o rKB4589212

One should then read every single information page for every KBs to check if a particular KB is applicable or not...

I'd like to know where this behavior of Manual "Check for Update" is described, as regards "standalone" updates.

Hello @LaurentDuparchy-3774,

You can have a deepdive into WindowsUpdate FAQs here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-update-faq-8a903416-6f45-0718-f5c7-375e92dddeb2

But in my experience the main difference is: Windows will push via Automatic updates, the recommended updates for your system, programs and drivers; while manual check will show you all available updates for your system for you to check.

Best regards,
