Server 2019 RDS UPD not dismounting - Event ID 20491

Hi,

We host qute a few RDS farms for our customers and have two customers that have started experiencing a weird issue.

All servers are Server 2019 and are fully up to date on windows updates.

We have a gateway server which also stores the user profile disks, and then 4 Session Host servers with the load balanced evenly.

Recently when users are logging off either via the start menu or we log them off via ServerManager their UPD is staying mounted on the session host server and the mount point stays within c:\users. This is shown in the event log with Event ID 20491 - "Remote Desktop Services could not disconnect a user disk for the user account with a SID of <SID>"

We have created a script to periodically clean these up however we are unable to find what is causing this to happen.

Currently we are planning on implementing FSLogix in the hope this resolves this issue but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue and managed to resolve it?

Thanks,
James

    Hello,

    Thank you for your question.

I would suggest to apply below troubleshooting steps first in your Test environment if you have.

    1. Disable offline cache
    2. Apply below GPO settings.

System/Logon "Always wait the network at computer start up and logon" -> Enabled

Windows Components/RDS/RDSH/Connections "Automatic reconnection" -> Disabled

Windows Components/RDS/RDSH/Connections "Configure keep-alive connection interval" -> Disabled

Windows Components/RDS/RDSH/Connections "Restrict RDS users to a single RDS Session" -> Enabled

Windows Components/RDS/RDSH/Temporary Folders "Do not delete temp folders upon exit" -> Disabled
