0xC002001B error when activating Windows Server 2022 Standard

I download Windows Server 2022 ISO from my MSDN subscription. And freshly installed the Standard edition on a bare-metal machine with AMD R7-5800U

Then claimed a product key right besides the download list
130283-msdn.png

When I try to activate, it failed with 0xC002001B
130264-error.png

Then I tried again with command line

dism /online /set-edition:ServerStandard /productkey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX /AcceptEula

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.20348.1

Image Version: 10.0.20348.202

Starting to update components...
Starting to install product key...
Finished installing product key.

Starting to apply edition-specific settings...

Error: 1168

From the log, it seems the product key was valid but failed with something else.

Above conversion is only necessary when converting evaluation media. MSDN (visual studio) media is not evaluation.

Might try
slmgr /ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
slmgr /ato

Thanks @DSPatrick

The slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX executed and it says product key is installed successfully

While slmgr /ato failed

Thanks. I tried these two scripts but I got the same error 0xC002001B when I ran slmgr /ato. Any other ideas?

oxc002001b == an error occurred which is not very helpful. If it were me I'd clean install it and try again. I have downloaded and used the Server 2022 MSDN image in the last few days and activated from cmd.exe without issues.

Hello,

Thank you for your question.

Additionally,

oxc002001b = RPC failed ,Which means there could be some communication error between your Server and Microsoft activation server.

Please try to Disable firewall and give Full internet access to the server.
Also , Please check Date and time are correct and not in back date.

Please also try to activate by using Phone.

I tried that, thanks, but it did not work. Any other ideas?

I solved the problem! I want to share with you how I did it.

  1. I ran “SLUI 04” command under Search to initiate the Activation Wizard

  2. The 9-set 6-digit numbers appeared (Activation ID) along with the MS phone to call

  3. Ignore the MS phone number because it is useless. Instead, I used the following MS phone number 1-866-230-0560

  4. Select option #2.

  5. The robot asked you to read the 9-set of 6-digit numbers.

  6. After providing all 54 digits, the robot will give you an Activation verification of one more 9-set of 6-digit numbers to enter (be patient and slow).

  7. Click Activate and tada, it is successfully done!

Unbelievably difficult! Nobody still knows what caused the 0xC002001B activation error problem.

PS I had MAK license for Windows Server 2022 Standard Edition
