    Hi there,

    Open the CMD as Admin and try this out.

    Type net stop wuauserv and hit Enter.
    Type ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution. old and hit Enter.
    Type net start wuauserv and hit Enter.
    Exit Command Prompt and try to run Windows Update.

    And also if it is specific update you can try getting it manually from update catalogue

    Thanks for your posting on Q&A.

    Is there any error information when you tried to check for updates? I recommended to follow this link to reset Windows Update components first.

    In addition, we could review the windows update log to get more details. Open the PowerShell as an administrator and print get-windowsupdatelog to get the windowsupdate.log file.

    Hello again

    Additionally, if Windows update service stuck and you can not stop or start then you can kill the its process.

    Open Task Manager - > go to services- > Note PID of Windows update services -> to to Details Tab -> Right click on Blank area and Select PID to view PID Column -> Once you able to see PID of Windows update services -> Right Click and click on End process Tree.

    One Dell server today hardware healthwise perfect in terms of its all working hardware spares. But it got hanged while updating the BIOS,in consequence the server OS did not start and incidentally all desktops users were unable to acers the server, after successful update of the BIOS 2016 server stated with all its services thereafter users desktops gained access to the 2016 Server to continue function smoothly.how this sudden glitch could have been Avoided ? Any solution please?
