Need Assistance with Bitlocker

I am not sure how this happened but when I tried to logon to my computer I found myself locked out by Bitlocker. I have the blue screen where it asks for a recovery key.

I followed instructions and checked my email and could not find the machine or drive label that matched anything in my email. I also then tried to disable Bitlocker through the command prompt and it would not let me. It said the Volume was locked. I could really use some suggestions on what to do. It won't even let me reset my PC.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello MikeBerk,

First of all, if your computer is managed by an organization or company, you may need to consult with your IT department for unlocking it. Main reasons might be a hardware change, some sort of unauthorized access (for example entering the wrong password a certain amount of times).

If you are logged in with a Microsoft account (live, outlook, hotmail, o365 domains) the recovery key will not be on your email, but in your OneDrive, as a TXT file. Usually with name Bitlocker Recovery Key THE-KEY-DIGITS-ETC.txt

Another option, is to start the computer with CMD as Administrator and run the command: manage-bde -protectors X: -get

Hope this helps with your issue,
Best regards,
