To install KB5005036, IE is mandatory as per the MS support Article but in actual it is contradictory.

As per the MS support document for KB5005036 it is mandatory to have Internet Explorer installed.

But when we disable the IE on a Windows Server 2012 R2, we were still able to install the patch(KB5005036). No error was encountered whatsoever.

Further, it seems there is no registry related to IE being affected.

Suggest if this is the right behavior? If not then there should be no dependency of IE and the reference needs to be removed from the MS Support article.

Hi

I see the Kb update is the Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer and in the link, there is no prerequisite for IE for this update. And the security updates will install in all conditions.

Yes @LimitlessTechnology-2700, we observed similar behavior. But the support article mentions(KB5005036: Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer) it is the update for IE. And so implies it is mandatory to have pre-installed IE and then install the update over it.

If that update can be installed without IE too then we think the word IE should be drop to avoid confusion.

Please suggest?
