RemoteApp User Profile disk storage consumption issue

Hi!

A bit of background:
My company has a RemoteApp farm with a dedicated RDS file server for UPD storage. The sessionhosts are running Winserver 2016, and the other components are Winserver 2019, all of them are Virtual in Hyper-V.

On our main collection, a storage quota of up to 20GBs per UDP is set, and the majority of users disks are between 200MBs and 2GBs.

A few select users UPDs are a lot larger, with the biggest one claiming 18GBs of storage on the fileserver.
For science, I mapped up that users disk, to check what type of files took that much storage, but I found a different issue altogether.

When looking into the share for the UPDs, that disk takes up 18GBs of storage, and while checking properties of said disk, Windows says it take up about that amount. But when I map that disk, only 2GBs of storage are claimed, same while checking via a third-party application, same while checking inside the disk manually.

I took the time to check a few other users, same thing. From what I can tell, a lot of our UPDs are taking up much more storage than necessary, and the result is causing us to run out of storage on the cluster hosting the farm.

Anyone with a similar issue?

Hello @Zigolezk-6277

It is very strange that the disks increases exponentially when data is added.

Could you please check if the configuration has been made correctly? Please check: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/security-compliance-and-identity/easier-user-data-management-with-user-profile-disks-in-windows/ba-p/247555

On the other hand you can try to resize the VHDX following this article: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/hyper-v/resize-vhd?view=windowsserver2019-ps

Hope this helps with your issue,
Best regards,
