Decommissioning 2012 DC

I need to decommission a 2012 R2 domain controller. We have 7 sites and this is the domain controller for site 1. Nothing is using the domain controller. All computers are using other DNS servers/DHCP servers at this time. My question is, do I need to do anything in AD Sites and services so that a different domain controller services this site? I can't seem to find anywhere to assign a different domain controller to the subnet in Sites and Services. Does this even need to be done or can I decommission the DC and be done? Thanks in advance.

When you demote this one the KCC will automatically assign another domain controller at site to become the bridgehead server so nothing else should need to be done.

Just checking if there's any progress or updates?

Hello @JeffMock-8584

In my experience you do not have to do anything after demoting this domain controller from dcpromo wizard.

But , you can verify after decommissioned of DC.

  1. From AD sites and services this DC references are removed.2

  2. From DNS console, all DNS records and SRV records get removed.

  3. Please check AD Replication is good in health state after removal .

Hope this helps.
