DynCache Server 2012

I am working with a client who is running a DC on Server 2012 R2. This DC has recently run into the issue described by the following article ( https://bobcares.com/blog/fix-high-memory-usage-by-metafile-on-windows-server-2008-r2/ ) in which the metafile and Mapped File are taking up almost all of the available RAM in the system. The article suggests installing DynCache, however, on researching this solution, I found that it should only be used on server 2003-2008 R2. Is there a comparable way to limit the size of the metafile in Server 2012 R2, or am I just SOL?

Hello,

Thank you for your question.

In my experience I will not suggest to run RAM clean up tool in DC.

Instead find which process is consuming RAM.

  1. Open up Resource Monitor (you can see a link for it there at the bottom of Task Manager).
Go to the Memory tab, and look at the processes and memory usage.

  2. Try https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/processexplorer.aspx and see if you can see anything.
