Backlogged inbox followup question

So, if I look at my ConfigMgrprereq.log file, it tells me that there are 4 unprocessed files in the SMS_Scheduler inbox.

From this, I learn that I need to look at the schedule.log file, to see what's going on. In this file, I see two files that the log says are having issues with, over and over. Here's the error line:

Cannot open file \\Severname\SMS_YEP\inboxes\schedule.box\tosend\0003B837.Irp. Cause is 2
An error occurred when creating the routing instruction.

There's also a line for another .lrp file, with a different name.

When I go look at that folder location, there are no files in that folder. So, is that the problem? If so, how do I resolve the issue?

Hi, @JoeHeaton-5870

Both Retry and Ignore prerequisite warnings can be chosen, I suggest to choose Ignore prerequisite warnings, if the update install stops because of a warning, you can then choose Ignore prerequisite warnings. This action allows the installation of the update to continue after a few minutes, and uses the option to ignore prerequisite warnings.

For the details:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/core/servers/manage/post-in-console-updates#retry-installation-for-the-hierarchy

Thank you for your help in this. I wish I had gotten this advice before I opened a break/fix ticket with Microsoft. It's been 2 days now, and he still doesn't have a plan to move forward. I think the big issue is the unprocessed files in the SMS_Scheduler inbox, which are not actually there. I do need help to resolve that, but I would love to do what you're suggesting and move forward with the upgrade. But, I don't want to do anything at this point that the technician hasn't asked for.

Hi, @JoeHeaton-5870
Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

When you run pre-check, did you get an error or warning about backlogged inboxes?
Can you show more details in Configmgrprereq.log and schedule.log?
You can paste some snippets of the log.

It's a warning. Not error. Just seeing if I can resolve it.

Hi, @JoeHeaton-5870

Thanks for the feedback.

Error 2 = file not found, is there any possible that someone deleted the files? If so, the problem may not be solved.
Here is a similar thread for your reference:

You may try to ignore this warning and do the upgrade.

I have no idea what files they would have been. So, no clue as to whether or not someone deleted them.

I did try to do the upgrade this morning, but it's not going well. For the pre-req checks, there are 2 warnings.

1) Enable site system roles for HTTPS or Enhanced HTTP. - I've ignored this, as our remaining 3 secondary sites will be going away, as soon as PXE is verified at the sites, as I've moved to a DP-only setup.

2) The backlogged inboxes warning - which is what we've been discussing here.

Right now, the update itself has been sitting for about 30+minutes with no action. Looking at the hman.log, and the cmupdate.log, they both have warnings stating " There is site server reporting WARNING in prereq check. Setup will not continue.."

This doesn't sound good to me. So, if the update won't continue, is there a way to break out of it, or stop it manually? Will it eventually time out and stop on its own, so I can try to fix whatever is wrong?

You may use update reset tool to stop it and reinstall again.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/core/servers/manage/update-reset-tool

I guess you didn't check the "ignore any prerequisite" when you do the install, you may check it and try again:

I didn't. Didn't think that either of the warnings would cause the upgrade to stall.

I ended up opening a case with Microsoft, as I didn't know about the reset tool, and didn't want to blow up the entire organization. Unfortunately, the response from support hasn't been very fast, or very informative yet, so I've asked him if he thinks I should do the reset tool and check the box. We'll see what happens...

This is what's showing now, if I right-click on the upgrade
