Edge Memory SIssues

Team,

Edge is taking up a lot of memory whenever I open it and causes other programs on my computer to fail. Thanks. I am not very code savvy.

For better understanding the issue, I want to confirm the following the questions with you:

Which version of OS and Edge browser are you using?

How do you check the memory and determine that it's Edge causing other programs to fail?

Could you please provide some screenshots which can explain the problem and tell us the steps about how you reproduce the issue?

I am using Windows 10 Home Version: 21H1. OS Build: 19043.1237 - Microsoft EdgeVersion 94.0.992.31 (Official build) (64-bit)

I use the Task manager embedded in Edge and the Computer task manager. It appears Edge is consuming a lot of memory (Top of the list on Processor view)

Extensions on Edge: Microsoft To-Do, & Liner (Both are not heavy applications)

It does not happen on any specific website. All websites. Even with only a few tabs open.

Hi @Bryan Tegomoh

I checked my Task Manager, and I found my Edge doesn't cost much memory. It costs about 70~89MB memory when only one tab is opened in Edge. How about the memory cost amount in your computer when you open only one tab in Edge? Please also disable all the extensions when you test.

Besides, how do you configure the settings in this page edge://settings/system? You can refer to my configurations in Edge Settings-> System. You can change your settings to the same as mine and test again to see if it can fix the issue.

I currently only have this tap open. I have disabled all extensions on Edge. I have reconfigured Settings/System to reflect the screenshot. I have restarted the browser to only have this tap open. On Task manager, Processes view, Memory it costs ~ 550-587 MB.
Not sure why this is happening

Dose the issue happen in other browsers in your computer?
Could you please try to clear browser cache and history by navigating to edge://settings/clearBrowserData?

After clearing these, please try to restart Edge and test again. If it still doesn't work, I suggest that you can provide the screenshot of Browser Task Manager. Besides, you can also refer to this article for more information about Edge high memory usage.

Hi, I have cleared the browser. It doesn't appear to make a difference. I have tried another browser. It appears to cost a lot of memory as well but not as much as Edge. Not sure what is causing it. Attached is the task manager screenshot below @Yu Zhou-MSFT

Hi @Bryan Tegomoh

It's unnormal that the browsers use so much memory. The issue also occurs in Chrome, so I assume it's not Edge's issue but your computer's issue.

There're many possibilities which can lead to the issue. I suggest that you can ask for help from IT experts and let them to check your computer thoroughly. You can check the performance of the hardware in your computer and check if there's any virus or malware in your computer, which all can lead to the issue.
